Rules are rules, right? They are there to be followed and an upstanding citizen like you would not even consider breaking or even bending the laws a little.

That's all very fine and dandy, though it doesn't make you the most fun person to be around. In fact, many would find rolling around naked in a barrel full of drawing pins more fun than being around you.

The word "stiff-necked" comes to mind. You take your responsibilities very seriously and have very little patience for anyone who doesn't.

You can be incredibly demanding and critical, somewhat akin to a teacher who is also incredibly demanding and critical. Oh, and that's another thing. Your imagination is sorely lacking. So much so that it's virtually non-existent. Well, you have no time for creativity with all these rules to follow.

At least, your rigid values ensure that you're always honest... which means you have no qualms telling your wife that, yes, she really does look fat in that dress. Don't expect many relationships to last very long.

So far, we've established that you're bland, inflexible, offensive and no fun at all. Kind of like a bag of salt-lacking potato chips, a year past its expiry date, with a bold phrase insulting your mother printed on the front. But less fun.

Photoblog: Mr. and Mrs. Pinklogician (now with ducks!)

Yeeeeeeeeeeeee-haaaaaaaawwwwwwwww!

Yesterday, Mr. PinkLogician became Mr. PinkLogician, PhD!

The defense was less grueling than we both expected, although there was a moment when one of the committee members interrupted Mr. PL's opening remarks with some scary sounding, seemingly project-undermining questions. Mr. PL ably managed those, however, and all of the questions during the actual examination part of the proceedings. I was quite impressed!

I think the coolest thing about the whole process was hearing our professors bring up issues and arguments Mr. PL and I had talked about years ago. In particular, there was some discussion of an argument Mr. PL and I hashed out in a long conversation on the balcony of what would be our first home together (at the time, I had just moved in) just after our engagement.

The best part of the whole thing, though, is that it took all of 30 seconds for the committee to deliberate and pass my husband. Although I know how brilliant he is, it was just super-cool.

Brats!

Today is our first home game at Private Midwestern University (where Mr. PL is now attending law school). In honor of this joyous occassion and to help raise money for married student housing, I volunteered to work at said housing's concession stand. I was endlessly amused at the signs being carried about by the kids to drum up business. (And, for the record, Quincy, the boy with the sign, is not a brat at all. He's our downstairs neighbor and very nice.)

Today's hint for freshmen guys hoping to get lucky: don't try to pick up chicks at the FAMILY HOUSING fundraiser. Chances are good that all the cute ones are married.

Moving moving moving...

Posting will be sparse here (as it has been) while I pack furiously, taking breaks only to extract the MiniLogician from whatever box she has packed herself and her dolly (and probably her purse - her new favorite toy, thanks Uncle Jay and Aunt Sandy!) into. I'm all out of boxes at the moment, so I'm taking advantage of the no-box time to eat an ice cream cone and post this here apology note.

Asleep at the Wheel was awesome, awesome, awesome. The addition of Elizabeth McQueen was a really good move. Her voice has mellowed since I first started going to see her (it's been a few years), but she has more edge than whoever it was who preceded her and that sounds great. Dale Watson didn't seem to be quite back in the swing (I think it was his first show back from wherever he disappeared to last year), but that might just be because my opinion was colored by the extreme amazing fabulousity of the Asleep at the Wheel show that had deafened and delighted me beforehand. It's hard to say.

Oh, how I will miss live music like that. It's not like I go to shows all the time anymore, now that I have a baby, but it's so so nice to be able to get a babysitter whenever and then have so many great options. I'm cheered that at least we might get to see Asleep at the Wheel in Ann Arbor this fall. (I think that Mr. PL kind of identifies with Ray Benson just a little. He might be from Michigan, but Texas has worked its way all the way into his soul. He's gone native, I suppose, and now there's no going back. The heat still gets to him, though.)

Squee squee squee!!!!!!!

I am the luckiest girl in the world tonight! We got our babysitter for the only date she was available before our impending exile from Texas...Monday night. Well, when I looked to see if there were any good shows Monday night, I was blown away! Asleep at the Wheel! And then, a few lines down on the list, Dale Watson! Eeeeeek!

Since this is our Last Big Texas Hurrah and possibly our last date for a while (and certainly our last date where there is any possibility of killer live music), we're going to try to hit both shows! I just bought the Asleep at the Wheel tickets. Both shows are quite reasonably priced and start two hours apart, so it won't be too unreasonable to try to see a good portion of each.

I am so busting out one of my cowboy hats for the occasion (and if I'm feeling cute enough, I'll post a picture).

Unexpected Pleasures

I've had two unexpected pleasures lately...

I picked up Calvin Trillin's Tummy Trilogy and it is such a delight. The man loves food and loves the kind of things I think are really at the heart of American cookery. His description of scrapple inspired me to actually make my own (my first adventure cooking pigs' feet and using a meat grinder...it was pretty tasty). He actually mentions a few places I've eaten or have intended to eat at (most of them for years).

Also, I had Amy's frozen cheese enchiladas. (Sometimes we do eat frozen at lunch.) Sooooo good. A close runner up to my mom's (but mom's are flat with a fried egg on top as nature intended).

Mmmmm....
