I'm glad that the author was below the national average food cost, but I wonder if she would be as satisfied with her costs if she were more serious about keeping her food purchases within a certain budget. Maybe she would; after all, eating local generally involves cooking from scratch and we all know that that is much less expensive overall. I also understand that for some people, the farmer's market is a less-expensive source for their produce. Here, however, it's the pricey, fancy, boutique place for yuppies. (Do I shop there? Heck yeah!) I'm hoping that the farmer's markets will be more affordable in the midwest.
